Red Wiggler worms or Eisenia Foetida are common to garden and farm soils because of their popularity to Gardeners and Farmers. They flourish and easily breed in large numbers where organic waste materials like manure, dead trees, dead rotting animals and plants. Red Wiggler worms are scientifically named Eisenia Foetida because of their believed defense mechanism it does when it felt under threat. When Eisenia Foetida or Red Wiggler worms feels danger or uncomfortable in its surroundings, it secretes a mild irritating substance that mildly burn other fragile skinned animals. Eisenia Foetida or Red Wiggler worms are unique species of worms that has been proven not to cross breed like other worm species. Red Wiggler are known for their striking Brownish Red stripes hence the other name "Tiger" that distinguish them from other worm species. Adult length can reach up to 3 to 4 inches and is pointed from both ends. The "Red Wiggler" also came from its popular characteristic when aggravated, it violently wiggles!

Eisenia Foetida or Red Wiggler worms are very prolific in homemade worm bins. They are bisexual or hermaphroditic; they have both male and female genitalias but needs a pair to be impregnated like all worm species. Eggs come out in groups which are called cocoons or "egg cases" Red Wiggler worms' egg cases are colored and shaped like little lemons at first then turns to a light brown when they come near hatching and is big enough to be clearly seen by the naked eye. Its size is about of a grape seed. An egg case has about 3 to 5 baby Red Wiggler worms in it and will come to sexual maturity in about 4 to 5 months. Baby Red Wigglers are already eating machines and can already be used in red worms composting

Red Wiggler worms are commonly bred and raised in most gardens or farms through composting bins or vermicomposting bins. The worms' cycle of getting rid of organic wastes then turns it to fertilizer is solely biological. Red Wigglers are a favorite in composting organic wastes and soil conditioning for planting because of their superior composting and excellent soil conditioning characteristics. Red Wiggler worms can eat as much as 1 ½ times their own body weight in 24 hours when there's plenty of food and their environment's temperature is fairly high and within their tolerance. With that, they can produce worm castings to as much as 75% of their body weights in 24 hours. Red Wiggler worm castings are by far richer in Nitrogen, Phosphate and Potassium compared to regular hot compost piles.   Being classified as epigeic worms, Red Wigglers will only burrow no more that 12 inches from the soil's surface- making them great for loosening and aerating top soils which will be beneficial to plant roots and small plants.

Like all worms, Eisenia Foetida or Red Wigglers are rich in protein. From their worm castings and composts, one can make potent liquid fertilizers which is great for indoor potted plants and garden soil as well. Eisenia Foetida worms are also favorite fishing worms because of their perseverance and their violent and thrashing wiggling which is very irresistible to fishes- a bite in no time guaranteed! Red Wiggler worms are can also survive temperature with ranges 16° - 28°C (60° - 80°F) perfect for those sunny whole day fishing trips. Red Wiggler worms are maybe someplace at the bottom of the food chain but it definitely gives benefits to all.
